Founder & President
David J. Maurrasse, Ph.D. is the Founder and President of Marga Incorporated, a consulting firm founded in 2000 providing strategic advice and research to philanthropic initiatives and community partnerships. Marga coordinates and leads the Race and Equity in Philanthropy Group (REPG), which is a network of foundations addressing policies and practices on racial equity and various aspects of equity and inclusion. Marga also coordinates and leads the Anchor Institutions Task Force, an action-oriented learning community promoting the role of anchor institutions in mutually transformative community partnerships.
Between 2000 and 2023, Dr. Maurrasse held numerous faculty and research positions at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, Climate School, and others. During the mid to late 1990’s, Dr. Maurrasse was an Assistant Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Yale University. In the late 1990’s, he was a Senior Program Advisor at the Rockefeller Foundation in the Building Community grantmaking portfolio. Dr. Maurrasse has published numerous books, including Strategic Community Partnerships (2021), Philanthropy and Society (2020) and Beyond the Campus: How Colleges and Universities Form Partnerships with Their Communities (2001) among others. He has spoken at many events on how philanthropy and anchor institutions harness their resources through mutually transformative collaboration to strengthen communities and solve pressing societal issues. He is an Emeritus Trustee at Bucknell University and on the Board of SBH Health System. Dr. Maurrasse and Marga Inc. are members of the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds a Doctorate in Sociology from Northwestern University.
